WE NEUTERED 65 OWNED DOGS OF PEOPLE WITH LOW INCOME
or STOCKMEN'S DOGS IN FIELDS
A Pilot project for owned dogs neutering + microchip placement for FREE we applied at the FEP Veterinary Center in Naoussa -Paros during 2019. The project concerned dogs belonging to low income families and stockmen having dogs in fields. This pioneering project has been made possible with the support of the Marching Animal Welfare Trust. In total were neutered 65 dogs.
The goal of free sterilizations and microchip placement is to reduce the abandonment of dogs and puppies on our island. Because the strays come of about 70% from the owned dogs and from the uncontrolled litters of the shepherd dogs in the fields.
Only systematic neutering can ensure that this uncontrollable breeding will stop and the number of strays will be reduced. The global animal welfare community recognizes neutering as the only humane and scientifically approved method of controlling stray population.
This important project went to meet the objectives of the establishing of the Veterinary Center by our association FEP which are the free neuterings and the reduction of strays.
